How could a company like Panerai put an unfinished movement into an expensive watch and expect no one to notice? There are some . The problem? By giving the movement an “in house” Panerai designation, the Swiss-not-Italian watchmaker stands accused of misrepresenting a garden variety movement – and charging through the nose for it. Unfortunately the original plastic dial became warped and was replaced with an altered Panerai dial with fake Radiomir Panerai engravings, done by the infamous Rinaldi clan. This watch changed hands many times.
When announced, Panerai stated the movement was a one of a kind variant for the 318 so weren't lying. What was never said one way or t'other was that it was a basic undecorated 6497. After the $hitstorm owners who wanted their movements upgraded were offered one FOC.
